The World’s First Open Source Guitar Effects Stomp Box

There has been quite a buzz about the new OpenStomp pedal. With this pedal you can develop custom audio effects (ie. distortion, echo, chorus etc) with the included software, mix multiple effects to build ‘patches’, and exchange those effects and patches with the OpenStomp community.

The inspiration for this pedal was to make something that sounded completely unique to everything else out there. In the words of the creator Eric Moyer, “I wanted to write weird effects that nobody else in the industry was making. I wanted it to be rugged enough to throw in a gig bag and knock around on stage. I dreamed that a community of effect artists might one day spring up and be able to share their work with each other.”

So basically, the pedal comes with some included effects like tremolo, chorus, distortion, delay, and loop effects. You can then use the included software to mess around with the effects and combine them to create custom patches.

The nerdy specs of the Open Stomp open source pedal include Parallax Propeller microprocessor (includes 8 different microprocessors at 80 MHz), 2 input and 2 output channels, 20-bit audio resolution and 44kHz sampling rates, 4 knobs, 2 on/of switches (with LEDs), 1/4″ input, output and bi-direction jacks, NTSC video and headphones outputs, micro USB and expansion RJ11 ports. You can download the full description and data pdf here.

An analog side pedal attachment would be good too.
The seems like an awesome idea!

The potential for customization and mods is through the roof.
