There is a guitar becoming more and more popular named Duesenberg. What is so good about this guitar, why are people getting excited about it and why do I get the feeling it will be my next dream guitar?
In case you haven’t heard of these guitars, here’s a quick update: founded by Dieter Goelsdorf, Duesenberg Guitars is a German company producing high-end electric guitars and basses with a distinctive Art Deco design since 1986. All models are built in the Duesenberg factory in Hannover; all hardware, including the single-coil/vintage, P-90 and humbucking pickups, are designed in-house.
One of the unique features about this guitar is the pickups. As you know, in most guitars you’ll either have the Humbucker type of pickups (think Gibson Les Paul) or the single coils (think Fender Strat). Well, in the Duesenberg guitars, they have installed the Humbucker style pickup in the bridge position and the P-90 (single-coil style) pickup in the neck. This means that you practically get the best of both worlds, and you can combine these two tones together until your ears are pleased.
Basically these are the Mercedes Benz of guitars!
These electric guitars feature solid and semi-solid, 12 and 6 string models. The range also includes signature models for German guitarist Carl Carlton, Ron Wood and Mike Campbell (of Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers); a custom ’49er’ was built for Keith Richards. The latest version of the Starplayer TV incorporates Duesenberg’s version of the piezo bridge.
So, in summary, here are the con’s and pro’s:
Pro’s
- Awesome colour choices
- Exceptional sound/tone
- Very high quality everything!
- Versatile (ie. A great range of tones)
- Very easy to play.
- Long history of the company.
Con’s:
- Not cheap!
