If you have been searching the internet for guitar instruction materials, such as DVDs and Online courses, you’ve no doubt run across Guitar Zoom .

They offer a wide variety of DVDs for practicing guitarists. The product I will be reviewing is titled “Ripfire”, by author Dan Denley.

Ripfire is a 20+ DVD package that covers a huge variety of useful tools for any guitar player, and seems to be their flagship product for those who are looking to really bump their guitar skills to the next level.

The question is, what is it and does it really work? Let’s break it down and find out.

What is Ripfire?

The entire course has over 20 DVDs, with over 30 hours of video instruction, covers a large amount of information for most practicing guitarists. The DVDs are broken down into segments:

1. Just Enough Theory

Here, I found quite a bit of useful music theory without being too complicating. Dan explains the major scale, and how it applies to everyday music and situations, while explaining how chords are formed, and how they relate to scales (and songs).

2. Chords Made Simple

This is a section I found very interesting. Dan takes various everyday chords, and shows how to expand on these by simply changing a note or a fingering here and there, and shows how to connect them together to “spice” up your chord sounds. It was great to break out of my chord rut!

3. Crucial Chords

This section covered most useful open chords as well as the primary Barre chords up and down the neck.

4. Rhythm Roundup

Dan shows a large variety of great strumming patterns and techniques to use in 4/4 and ¾ time signatures.

5. Killer Chord Combos

Here, Dan shows how to combine chords together, and how easy it is to play songs with them. I found it particularly useful as it really helps to see how so many songs are similar in chord uses!

And the list of instru goes on and on. There are more tools for the most important facets of playing guitar, chords and strumming, and how they go together. This course shows exactly how to put things together and make music more understandable, as well as more fun to learn.

What is included?

Needless to say, the complete DVD course itself, but there are a host of other add-ons:

1. Guitar Instruction Book

This book contains over 250 pages, and literally covers EVERYTHING that’s in the DVDs. A great companion to the course, it contains pictures as well to make explanation simple.

2. 50 Must Know Guitar Techniques

In this included course, Dan shows a HUGE variety of various techniques, such as fingerpicking, how to play blues, picking advice, and many others. What’s nice about this course is that you can choose what is most interesting to you, and skip the others. This is a great place to go for new ideas.

3. Jam Tracks

There are a bunch of CDs included for you to “jam” to, using the techniques you have been learning thru the courses.

4. Blues Guitar Secrets

This course explains how to play the blues from scratch. It contains over 3 hours of video, a host of jam tracks and a book as well.

5. And more..

There are a number of other courses and helpful items included, which help to continue your education in a variety of other sections, so your knowledge of a particular idea on the guitar just keeps expanding…

Does it work?

If you ask me, yes. A course like this lets you learn from the comfort of your own home, and at your own pace, with the ability to move around to various areas of development as you see fit. You don’t have to start at the beginning and move thru the entire course, you simply choose what you need, and dive in.

Another thing that makes this a success for me is the instructor, Dan Denley. He seems to be a “real” guy with a lot of training and experience in teaching and playing. He also talks to me at my “level” without making me feel like I am “less” of a player. His explanations are simple and to the point, and easy to follow.

The videos and the included booklet follow each other to the letter, which makes is less likely to get lost or confused. The video examples are easy to see, nothing goes too fast, and Dan takes his time when explaining each new idea.

Obviously the great thing about video is the ability to watch segments over and over until you develop the concept, then you can move forward.

Lastly, I would say the add-ons are exceptional, as they add a variety to the whole thing, and expand certain ideas and concept for further exploration. The jam tracks are also a great inclusion, as it gives you a chance to use all the ideas you are learning.

All in all, I would recommend this as a great product to push yourself in the right direction. With a positive and fun attitude, Dan seems to bring everything together in a great way, and the website also has tech support, so if you have problems or questions, there is a team waiting to help you!

Not only can you enjoy playing your favorite songs, delight your kids by playing the songs they love and play the guitar along with your friends, but also save thousands of dollars in tutor fees.

The creator of Jamorama is Ben Edwards who has had a long experience in the music industry. As the lead guitarist for the popular down-under band DegreesK, he has traveled the world. He has a bachelor of education degree and his passion for teaching others to play the guitar prompted him to develop Jamorama.

What all do you get when you subscribe for Jamorama’s online course? Jamorama is packed with step-by-step lessons, audio and video files, games, chords, progressions and guitar tab that help you to master the guitar. It includes:

- More than 250 pages of lessons, guide you in building skills

- 216 chord shapes

- 148 high quality video lessons

- Lessons on how to play the guitar in 8 major styles of music

- Lessons on 55 unique strumming patterns

- 26 professionally recorded JamTracks

- 5 Super Bonuses consisting of Ear Training Game, Sight Reading Game, Guitar Tuner Pro Software and lessons on how to tune your guitar, the Jamorama Metronome – learning tool for musicians, the Jamorama Chord and Riff Kit

It is difficult for you to learn the guitar without the help of a professional tutor. As a beginner, you are likely to develop poor techniques without proper guidance. Moreover, you will progress very slowly when compared to those who take the help of a knowledgeable teacher. You will also appreciate the fact that engaging a private guitar tutor is an expensive proposition for many people who want to learn guitar.

Jamorama is a computer-based online course and requires you to learn to play the guitar sitting in front of the computer. If you do not prefer to sit in front of the computer, you can opt for the course in hard copy. However, the online course provides more value.

After you pay for the course, you will be directed to the members’ page to download the lessons. It will take a few minutes to download the files to your computer. You will need to keep approximately half a gigabyte of memory free to save all the videos, pdf instruction manuals and free additional software. You can easily follow the good quality videos on your laptop and learn the nitty gritties. The video lessons provide you step-by-step guidance through proven learning strategies so that guitar students can move from beginner to the advanced stage without any hassles. The bonus software such as the guitar tuner, metronome, pro-music reading program, guitar ear training & complete chord kit provide value for money.

One of the major advantages of this course is that you learn and practice at your pace. It is possible for you to rewind and repeat lessons till you get it right. The 26 JamTracks which enable you to play along will keep your motivation going and make you want to play the guitar.

As a member you are eligible for free online lifetime updates. This is a very important aspect because you will benefit when the software is improved or updated any time in the future. You can try Jamorama Beginner to Advanced Course for 60 days and if you are not happy with the lessons, videos, jam tracks, and any other part of the course provided, you can avail 100% refund of your money.

A Jamorama review will be complete only when the pros and cons are also discussed. Some of the major pros are as follows:

- There are lessons for both beginners and the advanced levels. The lessons for the beginners start you off on your journey to learn the guitar. The lessons provide guidance on how to hold the guitar, strum it and form chords on it for making music. You can jam with the Jamorama Band in a variety of styles.

- Advanced lessons introduce you to minor, major seventh, power chords, advanced strumming techniques, etc. The jam track sessions will help to set what you learn.

- Using the Chord Book you can put your chord knowledge to use by forming chord progressions commonly used in a variety of music styles. Illustrations of chords are given through high resolution photographs with the tabs above them. Two variations are provided for each chord. Further, there are suggested progressions for you to try.

- The TuningGuide teaches you to tune your guitar with a number of helpful tips.

- You will learn each lesson by reading as well as by watching a video. This is very helpful to beginners.

Some of the cons are as follows:
- You cannot view all the videos in the membership page. You will have to download the entire package of files that take more than 500 MB. This means that you will have to have enough space in your computer. If you do not have sufficient space, you will have a problem downloading the material.

- There are many lessons and it may be slightly intimidating, at least to some, when they see that they have to go through them all.

How much does Jamorama charge you for all the fantastic product and bonuses that are being given to you? You will pay approximately $76 if you bought course material equivalent to the Beginner to Intermediate, Intermediate to Advanced, Chord Book and How to Tune Your Guitar e-book. Jamorama offers this and more for just $49.95! It is a steal! Think of the savings that you can have. A subscription website will cost you as much as $20 a month.

Summarizing, Jamorama is a complete plan for learning guitar at your convenience. It provides value for money. Those playing in a band or doing solo, can buy the deluxe edition for a slightly higher price. For beginners, the standard edition will suffice.

Many new guitarists believe that taking formal lessons is the only way to effectively learn how to play the guitar. While being taught by a private instructor may seem like the way to go, it is expensive and often causes a loss of interest.

For most people, it is much more satisfying and rewarding to discover and accomplish something on their own, such as learning to play the guitar. Self teaching has become more and more popular over the years among new guitarists.

Self teaching is becoming the choice of an increasing number of guitarists for several reasons. Firstly, self teaching is free. Formal lessons can be a costly expense of both time and money. The guitarist may choose to buy learning tools such as books, but no time investment or obligation is required. Self teaching allows the guitarist to relax and learn at his or her own pace. This provides for a more enjoyable learning environment.

The second reason self teaching is more effective is the myriad of learning resources available to the guitarist on the internet. Tons of lessons and valuable learning information can be found for free on the internet. In addition to this, tablature websites allow the guitarist to learn all of his or her favorite songs. Tablature is a special musical notation developed specifically for the guitar. It is much simpler to read and understand than regular musical notation.

Another reason why self teaching is a smart choice when learning guitar is because lessons often cause a loss of interest in the instrument over time. This is likely because lessons do not allow the guitarist to work as his or her own pace or choose the time and place of the playing. Because of this, lessons can quickly become a burden to the guitarist causing a loss of interest in learning guitar. Self teaching allows the guitarist to relax and learn on his or her own time.

If you have a Pink Floyd fan on your gift list, then you have possibilities you may have never even considered. A comprehensive Pink Floyd fan gift buying guide includes the things that would interest fans of the band beyond buying the newest re-mix of a Pink Floyd studio album.

In order to be able to buy unique but effective gifts for the Pink Floyd fan in your life, you need to understand the things that inspire someone who follows the band. There is more to a Pink Floyd gift buying guide than tie-dyed shirts and colored light bulbs. Here is a buyer’s guide of the top 10 gifts for Pink Floyd fans that includes things that you may have never thought of, but will be a definite hit with your Pink Floyd fan.

Monty Python – Pink Floyd themselves were huge fans of the comedy group Monty Python. The band invested funds into Monty Python to help make the movie “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” That makes any Monty Python DVD or Blu-Ray, especially “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” the perfect gift for a Pink Floyd fan. Don’t forget that all of the episodes of the television show “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” are also available on DVD.

Incense – One of the best parts about listening to Pink Floyd music is to put on the headphones, close your eyes and just let the music work its way around your head. The smell of incense can help enhance that experience. That is why an incense holder and a couple of packs of incense make the perfect Pink Floyd gift. Some good scents to start with are sandalwood and strawberry.

“Live at Pompeii” – People get so caught up in giving Pink Floyd’s “Pulse” DVD and CD copies of “The Wall” as gifts, that they forget about the “Live at Pompeii” DVD. There is a director’s cut available that offers insight from the director as well as both versions of the movie; the original, and the extended version that includes footage of Pink Floyd in the studio along with interviews of the band.

Ginger Gilmour – Ginger Gilmour was David Gilmour’s wife for 15 years. She is also an artist that sells her work through her website. To own a piece of art from the former wife of David Gilmour would be something any Pink Floyd fan would cherish.

Polly Samson – Polly Samson married David Gilmour in 1994. Prior to marrying the Pink Floyd guitarist, Samson was a writer with several books to her credit. Since the marriage, Samson has continued to write books as well as contribute lyrics to David Gilmour’s musical endeavor. A Polly Samson book would be a welcome addition to the collection of any Pink Floyd fan.

“Inside Out” – Nick Mason, the drummer for Pink Floyd, wrote a very interesting biographical book about the band called “Inside Out.” It was not warmly received by the other members of the band, but it is a favorite of Pink Floyd fans all over the world.

Tour shirt – Pink Floyd has not toured since 1994, but there are several websites that sell replicas of old Pink Floyd tour shirts. The Pink Floyd fan in your life would proudly wear a tour shirt from the glory days of their favorite band.

Solo material – Each member of Pink Floyd, including Syd Barrett, has released at least one solo album. David Gilmour and Roger Waters solo albums tend to be the most popular, but the true Pink Floyd fan on your gift list would love a copy of a Rick Wright or Nick Mason solo album for their collection.

“Still First In Space, The Crew’s Story” – This is a DVD made back in 1986 by a former member of the Pink Floyd crew. It gives a unique look behind the scenes at a Pink Floyd tour, and it shows how the crew transforms an empty soccer stadium into a Pink Floyd wonderland. The DVD is only available through the Internet, but can easily be found with an Internet search.

Instruments – The Fender Company makes guitars for guitarist David Gilmour and bass player Roger Waters. Fender has also issued a signature model for each musician. Even if your Pink Floyd fan does not play an instrument, they would still treasure a Pink Floyd signature edition Fender guitar.

It can be difficult to choose the top 5 guitar solos because music is a very subjective field. However you can be sure of one thing. Any solos by a guitarist are integral parts of a song. The guitarist is able to bring his talent and skill to the attention of fans.

For a few brief moments the listeners have the opportunity to realize how much heart and soul these musicians really have. People finally understand that it really isn’t all about the vocalists and front men. Songs are about the music, and guitars play a big role in any song.

Technique is a key element that anyone must have if they want to amaze an audience with their ability on a guitar. It is also important to have the desire to be innovative. The best guitarists in the world are known for their abilities to find the right chords and keys on a guitar but they also have the dreams, imagination and talent to take it a step further. They are not satisfied to follow in the footsteps of others. Instead they create new musical worlds and amazing magic with the strings of their guitars.

Here is a list of the top 5 guitar solos of all time;

1. Stairway to Heaven is not only one of the best selling songs of all times it brought guitar solos to the forefront of the music world. It would be difficult for anyone to disagree that the best guitar solo in history was played by Jimmy Page in 1970. Page used his Fender Telecaster for the recording of this classic Led Zeppelin hit, but for any of the live shows he would use a double neck Gibson guitar instead.

According to the band’s biography, Jimmy Page actually recorded multiple guitar solos in the studio. Then he listened to these recordings over and over before selecting the one that he felt had the right qualities to blend perfectly with the other tracks of “Stairway to Heaven”.

This song had enough musical and vocal legs to stand on its own but ridiculous claims that Led Zeppelin had included Satanic messages boosted the sales. Naysayers were adamant that the band had produced the song to play “devil worshipping” lyrics if it were ever played backwards. Naturally most of the world wanted the chance to find out if this fact was true or not, but the magic guitar solo by Jimmy Page survived this public debacle and mesmerized all listeners.

2. November Rain guitar solo by Slash. The solo at the end of this song is nearly 3 minutes long and captures all of the passion and musical versatility of this guitar maestro. The riffs and slides that Slash was so able to perform were responsible for inspiring millions of teens and adults to try their hand at learning how to play a guitar for the first time.

3. Hotel California features solo and duo performances by Don Felder and Joe Walsh. However it is the guitar mastery by Walsh that has most fans enthralled with this “Eagles” classic rock song. This is one of those instances where the lyrics really are overshadowed by the magic produced in the guitar solos.

4. Layla is a rock masterpiece that was first played by a band known as Derek and the Dominoes. The guitar solo in the song is a display of magnificent fretwork and leaves listeners longing to hear more. The soloists who demand your attention with their guitar playing abilities are Eric Clapton and Greg Allman. If truth be told Clapton outperforms Allman on “Layla” by a mile.

5. Brian May and his extraordinary guitar playing dazzled the music world when he showed his complete domination of the instrument in the song Bohemian Rhapsody. Queen was a band with a stand out vocalist in Freddie Mercury but May’s unbelievable chords and riffs could hold their own against the vocal range and stage antics of the lead singer. Guitar solos by Brian May can be heard on all Queen songs but on the extended version of “Bohemian Rhapsody” he is finally given the chance to really explode on those strings.

There are some other solos that demand recognition as well. Many fans would argue for their inclusion on a list of top guitar solos, but in this instance these musical pieces just fell a bit short of the mark.

Eric Johnson fired off a stringed solo on the album “Ah via Musicom”. The song was “Cliffs of Dover” and Johnson nearly stole the show when he displayed his guitar skills in his solo stint.

“Evil Empire” was a top selling album produced by the band, “Rage Against the Machine”. The song, “Bulls on Parade” gave Tom Morello a chance for one of those uniquely different guitar solos that dazzled anyone who listened.

Metallica has always been a heavy metal band that has shown they are ahead of the times. Guitarist Kirk Hammet was at his best when he performed the riveting guitar solo on the song, “Fade to Black”. This song remains one of the favorites of fans around the world.

Many songs by the group Nirvana may become distant memories but not the song, “Smells like Teen Spirit”. This was the group’s masterpiece and the emotional guitar solo by Kurt Cobain is still one that is being imitated by many musicians.

Jimmy Page gives fans another special treat when they are able to hear his musical genius during his long guitar solos on the song “Heartbreaker”. This was one of the most popular songs the group recorded during their time together and it was included on the “Led Zeppelin II” record album. Page will always be included in a listing of any top 5 guitar solos and he well deserves this honor.

Win an Eric Clapton Stratocaster® guitar & the sold-out Clapton Deluxe Limited Edition Bundle.

Guitar icon and three-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Eric Clapton is set to release his 19th solo studio album, Clapton, on Sept. 28.

“This album wasn’t what it was intended to be at all,” he says. “It’s actually better than it was meant to be because, in a way, I just let it happen. It’s an eclectic collection of songs that weren’t really on the map — and I like it so much because if it’s a surprise to the fans, that’s only because it’s a surprise to me, as well.”

To celebrate this release, Fender is giving you a chance to win his signature Fender Stratocaster model and the sold-out Clapton Deluxe Limited Edition Bundle, which includes an exclusive bonus track, “You Better Watch Yourself,” all on a collectible 24-karat-gold CD.

This offer ends on Nov 4th 2010.

If you've been meaning to learn the guitar, this would be the perfect solution for you. Miso Music has some exciting features, which seperate it from any other guitar learning app out there. This looks like one of the best guitar training applications we've seen.

Miso Music just won the People’s Choice Award at TechCrunch Disrupt, after receiving the most votes from conference attendees from 2010.

This application might just be the best guitar teacher the ipad and iphone have ever seen!

First, you choose a song; Miso has licensed music from Sony/ATV, which gives them rights to include music from The Beatles, Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood, and more. After picking a song, you’ll see a bunch of colorful dots scroll across the screen representing each note you’re supposed to play.

Another great feature which got me excited; Miso will actually listen to what you’re playing.

Every time you pluck a string, Miso will use its polyphonic note detection to hear what you’ve played — play the right note and the tab appearing on the screen will scroll a bit, which means you can keep playing continuously without having to turn the page. This really is the highlight of the app, and it’s what separates it from other guitar learning apps.

The application also includes a bunch of virtual instruments, the sounds of which have been licensed from Fender guitars.

Main Features

Specifically designed for the iPad & iPhone platforms!

Choose from 6 different types of instruments.

Vibrato, hammer-ons / pull-offs, harmonics & the ability to capo frets.

Use polyphonic note detection software that uses the device’s built-in microphone to determine if the correct notes are being played.

Includes a strobe tuner accurate enough to tune a drum set!

You can download misoMusic for FREE starting in October. Get ready to Pick, Pluck, Play, and learn to play the guitar today.

As a fourth-generation musician, he recalls knowing he wanted to be a musician as early as age four.

He received his first guitar from his father at the age of 4, and by age 7 he was playing Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix tunes note for note.

He first opened for B. B. King at 12 years of age. After first hearing him play, King said, “This kid’s potential is unbelievable. He hasn’t even begun to scratch the surface. He’s one of a kind.”

Digital is, in fact, improving and quickly growing to be a preferred choice of some guitarists. So if you are interested to see what are the best options in the digital world for guitarists, here are is a shootout/comparison between, Axe FX, 11 Rack & the Line 6 X3.

Guitar players have experimented with altering the sound of their guitars ever since it was first created. Amps started to incorporate reverb, tremolo and overdrive into the circuitry. Never satisfied, guitarists looked for more and the effect pedal was born.

As technology developed, the integrated circuit was introduced in the late 1960′s, which allowed for more complicated effects. Some of these effects included the chorus, phaser and flanger. Many of these pedals were noisy and signal degradation was common.

Next to come along was the digital effects. The benefits of digital included better performance, no noise, infinite delay times, clear reverbs, etc. Soon, the multi-effects units were born. Competition was intense, with each manufacturer trying to one-up the other with more effects and cheaper prices. The price war led to cost-cutting which led to the digital effect’s demise. The digital effect ‘tones’ become known as being ‘grainy’, ‘cheesy’, and noisy. It didn’t take long before many guitarists rebelled and analog pedals and old-school tube amps became the preferred option.

While many guitarists still believe that digital doesn’t even come close to the original amps and analog effects, Digital is, in fact, improving and quickly growing to be a preferred choice of some guitarists. And now, more than ever, the quality of digital audio is hard to refute.

So if you are interested to see what are the best options in the digital world for guitarists, here are is a shootout/comparison between, Axe FX, 11 Rack & the Line 6 X3 Pro.

Line 6 X3 Pro

It features the same Dual Tone architecture as the X3, which means that you can set up two different effect/amp/speaker cab rigs at the same time and combine them.

As wih the standard X3, you get 78 guitar amp models, which can be fed through any one of 24 cabinet models. There are 98 stomp and studio effects, 28 further bass amp models with 22 bass cab models and six vocal preamp models, the latter being rather more impressive than you might imagine in recreating a vintage sound.
